About Vineyard Church, Ann Arbor

The Vineyard Church of Ann Arbor is part of a growing number of evangelical churches bringing a community outreach and activist ethos to the issue of environmental stewardship.  They view care for God’s creation as rooted in their religious worldview, seeking to tap the power of faith for the sake of better care of the earth, with a special interest in alleviating the impact of environmental degregation on the vulnerable poor both at home and abroad.

To that end, they are actively integrating principles of environmental stewardship, called Creation Care, into the life and outreach of the church and helping other churches to do the same. The church’s new ministry, Green Vineyard, promotes these principles throughout the church by helping the church become more environmentally friendly, educating participants in this aspect of Christian spirituality, and reaching out to the wider community to promote better care of the environment.

Senior pastor Ken Wilson is one of the founders of the Creation Care for Pastors Project, which provides an introduction to environmental stewardship to fellow pastors in the far flung evangelical movement. Wilson is also author of Empowered Evangelicals (co-author with Rich Nathan) published in 1995 (Servant) and most recently, Jesus Brand Spirituality: He Wants His Religion Back (Thomas Nelson, May 2008, www.jesusbrandspirituality.com). He has also served on the Ann Arbor Humans rights Commission (2005-2007) and is currently Regional Overseer of the Great Lakes Region of Vineyard Churches (100 churches) and member of the national board of Vineyard. He is currently writing his next book, The Praying Brain, a book about Christian prayer informed by recent understandings of the praying brain in neuroscience.
